Is Black Friday Catching on in the UK?

Black Friday has always been a popular event in America, but it’s starting to become more prominent in the United Kingdom as well. Numerous shops offered Black Friday deals this year, from large superstores to small individual retailers.

The 2015 Black Friday deals seemed to be very much geared up to online shoppers as well as those who chose to physically visit stores to hunt for deals. Many shops advertised beforehand that they would have Black Friday offers available, creating awareness and building up a sense of excitement around the event.

Whilst some stores chose to limit their deals or avoid Black Friday altogether following the somewhat chaotic events of 2014, many others enjoyed record sales and welcomed the opportunity to bring in more revenue. Shoppers were able to make some significant savings on particular products, especially electrical good such as televisions, laptops, computers and mobile phones, which saw major price reductions in many stores. Numerous consumers took the opportunity to capitalise on these deals, visiting websites at midnight as sales started and queuing up to visit certain shops at midnight during special opening hours.

Whilst Black Friday certainly doesn’t have the same kind of prominence in the UK as it does in America, it does seem to be an event which has caught on for many consumers and retailers. In some way, shape or form it looks as though Black Friday sales will be here to stay.

Shopping in Individual Boutiques and Craft Fairs

Sometimes, the monotony of shopping on generic high-streets and in characterless shopping centres can become incredibly uninspiring. If you’re starting to feel this way about your shopping activities, it might be time for you to turn to independent shops for a refreshing change. You may have a more limited choice, as selections will depend on what is available at the time, but it will make a pleasant change from the usual overcrowded everyday shops.

Small boutiques, craft fairs and markets are often dotted around towns, sometimes in quite unexpected places. You’ll be able to find all kinds of shops in places like these. Some examples of items which you’ll be able to find include handmade local produce and goods, clothing, jewellery, vinyls and CDs, crafts and vintage fashion pieces.

It can be a very enjoyable experience to browse independent boutique shops and it’s a good feeling to know that you’re supporting local business owners as opposed to the retail giants who dominate the market. There might also be independent food outlets such as coffee shops and cafés, so you can stop for a quick snack whilst still supporting your local economy.

Even if you’ve lived somewhere your whole life, it’s worth checking what’s available in your local area – it may surprise you!

Paying for Shopping – the Easy Way

Shopping is being revolutionised. It’s becoming easier than ever to shop anywhere, any time. As it becomes easier for us to purchase the goods that we want to, the purchasing process itself is also changing. We lead busy lives, and people don’t want shopping to take up too much of their time. Luckily, there are a number of ways in which you can speed up your payments.

If you’re paying online, you can often store card details in order to make the process quicker in future. You can sometimes pay using an alternative payment platform, or if you use a particular website regularly, you can choose an option to remember your card details for next time. It will ask you for security details each time, so it’s still a safe method of payment.

It you’re paying for items in a shop, there are a number of ways in which you can speed up this process as well. You can use contactless payment cards to complete the transaction, and sometimes there are even apps which will allow you to pay via them. Technology is becoming far more sophisticated, and potentially in the future, it will be possible to shop without even needing to carry a wallet full of cash and cards around with you.

6 Tips For The Perfect Cafetiere Coffee Cup

Just like how eggs taste differently with each method of cooking, coffee elicits a distinctive taste depending on the brewing method used. There are a myriad of ways which include a Siphon, Aeropress, Cold Brew, French Press or Cafetiere, among other means of getting a delicious blend.

A cafetiere is one of the simplest to use that’s made available today at an affordable cost, yet you can come up with an exceptional drink to enjoy. It yields a full-bodied cup with a process similar to brewing tea, where the grounds are steeped in hot water at the ideal temperature. This process extracts oils, which adds a creamy, buttery flavour which filter methods cannot do.

What’s more is if you know of some tips on how to make the perfect coffee out of a 3 cup cafetiere, you get the most out of your kitchen tool. You can come up with a delightful cup not only for yourself, but something good to share with friends and family too.

1. Pick High-quality Coffee

You’ll be needing ground coffee for cafetieres, and it’s quite sensible you will most likely not be satisfied with second-rate beans. It does not necessarily have to be expensive, but is essential that it comes from growers who are passionate about the quality of their produce.

I finally bought a new phone

I have an iPhone 4S. I bought it, maybe, 4 years ago and over the years it has been a faithful servant. Over the past few months, though, the battery has really struggled now that I have started to use apps like WhatsApp and Snapchat. I don’t use them excessively at all but even the slightest use means my battery starts to drain quickly. I have a bunch of photos and messages on there, of course, but it’s the app use that catches up to it.
After watching a few reviews, chatting to a few friends and seeing what was on the market, however, I decided to buy a new phone. I opted for the One Plus range; cheaper smartphones with amazing technology. What is there to lose? The phone is gorgeous, the screen is great and the camera is far better than I am used to as well. I am excited to get on with a new tech chapter in my life!

Brand names on eBay

I wanted a Ralph Lauren polo shirt. I was in Selfridges and I saw one; sat quietly on the shelf waiting to be bought by me. It was expensive though; in the region of £80 which was way too much for me having already spent a bit of money on that shopping trip. I had a thought though; they were bound to be cheaper online… right? I hopped across to the Ralph Lauren website to test that theory, I was wrong.

£80 dead on. I was at a loss; with a fancy BBQ coming up in London I had to look the part. I had a final thought; “ebay?” There’s bound to be a reseller online who has a bunch of polo shirts they are looking to flog. There were! I was lucky enough to snag one for £20. Posted the next day and now it’s on my body looking fine.

Travelling to shop

Shopping is already something that many people struggle with. It is not strictly a man vs woman situation any more; some men love it, others hate it, while some women fit the bill and others are a curve ball. The idea of not liking shopping, though, is an odd one. Everyone buys things – that itself is the act of shopping. What people dislike is the event of shopping; the walking around from shop to shop, place to place, looking at prices, cuts, styles and options instead of getting in, buying what you need, and getting out.
But travelling to shop? That could be a step too far for many people. For those people a trip to Amazon might be too far, but the idea of jumping in the car or on the train and travelling to a major city simply to shop? Or travelling to an exclusive shopping centre and spending a day traipsing around shops? That is a nightmare for many people.

Cafetieres and Their Significance in Coffee Brewing

A cafetiere is a coffee-brewing product whose method of operation involves pouring hot water onto coarse ground coffee then a plunger that is equipped with a metal filter is immersed to the bottom of the glass beaker so as to press the ground coffee. For many years cafetieres have been used in homes around the world and they have been transformed in terms of design and materials used in making them with the help of innovative technology.

Most cafetieres have plastic lids that close firmly on the mouth of the beaker. Their coffee brewing mechanism is not complicated and easy to use since they have nylon mesh filters.

Charity Shopping in Nottingham

Ah Nottingham, the place where the sun never shines. Or at least never shines when I come and visit. On almost ten separate occasions have I visited Nottingham; a place that sounds great on paper but, in truth, is a pretty run of the mill city. Except it’s never warm or sunny. Ever. As far as cities go it does, however, have something a little unique when it comes to shopping. Every town, every city in the country has charity shops. Places where people donate their old clothes, books or what have you in the name of raising money for charity. They’re good ventures and raise a lot of money for causes while also finding good homes for older things.
Nottingham, though, has a few charity shops that are trying to come across a little more “chic” though. They have more sophisticated layouts, more specific stock (because they trade things with other stores) and are trying to capture the kind of boutique, retro-chic look that has taken much of the fashion world by storm.
